Congratulations to Dr. Huaye Zhang on her promotion to Full Professor. Dr. Zhang, a BHI member and faculty member in the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, studies polarity determinants in synaptic plasticity and neurodegeneration. A major focus of her lab is to understand the role of a group of polarity regulators called Par (partitioning defective) proteins in dendritic spine morphogenesis and plasticity. Dr. Zhang is also interested in how their regulation of spine plasticity translates to cognitive functions in vivo. A second direction of the lab is to understand the role of these Par proteins in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
