SUMMARY:CBN Seminar: Yousong Ding\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:“Synthetic biology for illuminating cellular responses in space and the gut”\nCells adapt to environmental stressors through chemistry\, producing and responding to small molecules that mediate survival\, defense\, and communication. My lab integrates enzymology\, natural products\, and synthetic biology to uncover and reprogram these chemical responses across diverse systems. My talk will begin with our collaborative research on microbes associated with coral diseases and isolated metabolites. I will then discuss how yeast reconfigure metabolism during spaceflight\, providing insights into cellular resilience under extreme conditions. Finally\, I will highlight our recent work engineering native E. coli strains from the mammalian gut to express fluorescent reporters and bioactive metabolites\, offering new ways to probe host–microbiome interactions and therapeutic potential. Together\, these studies illustrate how synthetic biology can illuminate fundamental cellular responses from marine environments to the human microbiome\, and even beyond Earth.

SUMMARY:Nucleate NY Activator Info Session
DESCRIPTION:Curious about how the Nucleate NY Activator can help you take your research from the lab to impact? We’re hosting upcoming info sessions where you’ll hear directly from us and our alumni about how the program works and what you can gain. \nEligible applicants include graduate students (MS\, MEng\, PhD\, MBA\, JD\, MD)\, postdocs\, principal investigators\, recent graduates and early stage founders. Whether your passion lies in therapeutics\, diagnostics\, medtech\, synthetic biology\, or fields like food\, energy\, agriculture\, or consumer products\, this is your opportunity to transform your research into a groundbreaking venture. \nApplications are reviewed on a rolling basis through October 20. Early submission is encouraged for early team matching. \nCheck out our FAQs page if you have any questions. \nThese sessions give graduate students\, postdocs\, and PIs a chance to hear directly from our alumni\, mentors\, and leadership about how the Activator works and what they can gain by participating.
