Dr. Natasha O’Brown Named Freeman Hrabowski Scholar by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute

Congratulations to Dr. Natasha O’Brown, Assistant Professor of Cell Biology & Neuroscience at Rutgers University–New Brunswick and member of our Rutgers Brain Health Institute, on being named a Freeman Hrabowski Scholar by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)!
Dr. Natasha O’Brown’s research studies the blood-brain barrier—the network of cells that regulates what can enter the brain—a complex process with important implications for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other diseases. Her lab explores how the barrier is built and seeks ways to tighten a leaky barrier and open it transiently to improve treatment options for brain tumors.
