Dr. Brian Daniels Awarded NINDS R01 Grant to Explore Immune Control of Neurotransmission

Dr. Brian Daniels, Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at the School of Arts and Sciences, RU-NB, and BHI member, has received an R01 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for his project “Innate Immune Control of Neurotransmission”.

This study will investigate how the brain’s innate immune system influences neurotransmission, with implications for understanding and potentially treating neurological diseases. By exploring the molecular and cellular pathways through which immune mechanisms affect brain function, Dr. Daniels aims to uncover new therapeutic targets for conditions where immune dysregulation and impaired neural signaling intersect. The project’s findings could pave the way for innovative strategies to protect and restore healthy brain communication in disorders of the nervous system.
