Appointment of Carlos Pato, MD, PhD as Associate Director of Rutgers Brain Health Institute

We are excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Carlos Pato, MD, PhD, as Associate Director of the Rutgers Brain Health Institute (BHI). Dr. Pato is Henry Rutgers Professor of Behavioral Health and Executive Chair of the Departments of Psychiatry at RWJMS and NJMS. He is also Senior Vice President of Research, Training and Academic Affairs for Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC). Dr. Pato’s research focuses on genomic psychiatry, with an emphasis on population-based genetic studies to identify social determinants of brain health. Before joining Rutgers, Dr. Pato was Senior Vice President and Dean of the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate.

In his new role as the Associate Director of BHI, Dr. Pato will work with BHI leadership to grow translational and clinical brain health research at Rutgers by helping facilitate recruitment and mentoring of physician-scientists, increasing research collaborations between BHI and the RWJBH system, and enhancing research partnerships with industry. Given his prior experience in leading international research consortiums, Dr. Pato will also advise BHI leadership on building collaborations with international institutions.
